On-Page SEO Checklist: What Actually Moves Rankings

Title tags and headings

Your title tag is one of the strongest on-page relevance signals and the first thing a searcher sees in results — it needs to clearly describe the page and include the primary topic naturally, without stuffing in every variation of a keyword. Headings (H1 through H3) should form a logical outline of the page, not a list of keyword phrases.

Content that matches search intent

The single biggest on-page factor is whether the content actually answers what the searcher wants. A page targeting a comparison query needs to compare options; a page targeting a how-to query needs clear, actionable steps. Mismatched intent is one of the most common reasons a well-optimized page still doesn't rank.

Depth matters, but padding doesn't — a thorough page that fully answers the query in fewer words outperforms a long page that repeats itself to hit a word count.

Internal linking

Internal links help search engines understand which pages on your site are most important and how topics relate to each other. Linking from relevant blog content to the service pages it supports — and between related service pages — spreads authority around the site and helps visitors find what they need next.

Metadata and structured data

Meta descriptions don't directly influence rankings, but they influence click-through rate, which matters for traffic. Structured data (schema.org markup) helps search engines understand page content precisely and can enable enhanced results like FAQ or breadcrumb rich snippets.
